Windermere Station

Windermere Station is the end of the line from Oxenholme in Kendal, the only station serving the main tourist gateway to the The Lakes situated at the top of Windermere village next to the A591 the main route from the M6 motorway into the Lakes.

Windermere Station has a single track used in both directions back and forth to Oxenholme Station, Kendal where travellers can connect to the mainline West Coast tracks North and South. With the trains stopping in Windermere as a perfect location to start any holiday using public transport, the station also has a bus depot for people travelling North into the area as far as Keswick.

Back in 1849 the first railway cottages were built to house the station master.

Windermere railway station has been awarded the international award for Best Small Railway Station in Europe (2009). At an award ceremony held in Belfast, Ireland, the prize was snatched from Grange over Sands Station which won the same award the year before.
