Wasdale Head
Wasdale Head is a small picturesque hamlet in the Lake District National Park situated at the head of Wasdale valley, is surrounded by some of England’s highest mountains – these are: Scafell; Scafell Pike; Kirk Fell; Pillar and Great Gable.
Wasdale Head states that is is home to the deepest lake at approximately two hundred and fifty feet deep (Wast water), the highest mountain at 3210 feet (Scafell Pike), smallest church (St Olaf’s Church) and self proclaimed biggest liar in England (Will Ritson).
This small picturesque hamlet has been a starting point for walkers and climbers for many centuries. It is a recognised starting point today for the ascent of Scafell Pike as part of the National Three Peaks Challenge. There are many walks available in and around Wasdale Head, and after a strenuous walk or climb, why not relax and enjoy a locally brewed pint at the Wasdale Head Inn which has retained many of it’s original features and which has a collection of climbing memorabilia.
