Tilberthwaite

The Tilberthwaite Fells lie to the West of Ambleside and Lake Windermere, and to the North of Coniston which is the closest Lake District village, the fells are surrounded by well known mountains which include Haystacks and Wetherlam. Tilberthwaite is also known for the Tilberthwaite Ghyll and Tilberthwaite Quarry (see Wetherlam below) there are also some cottages and farms dotted around the Tilberthwaite Valley and fells.

Wetherlam is dotted with old mine tunnels from long ago, copper and slate were mined here, the main copper mining was done to the south of Wetherlam and is known now as the Coppermines Valley.

From the top of Wetherlam there are excellent views of the Coniston fells, the Irish Sea and the Pennines (on a very clear day) can be seen with Little Langdale being the most picturesque.
