Senhouse Roman Museum
The Senhouse Roman Museum, which is in Maryport, was started in 1570 by John Senhouse who was Lord of the Manor of Ellenborough. He collected bits from the old Roman Fort at Maryport and Kept them through twelve generations of his family and finally opened to the public in 1990 in a converted Victorian naval battery which overlooks the town. This museum houses one of the country’s oldest and most important private collections of Roman relics.
