Ascent up this fell is usually made from Patterdale, however, Arnison Crag, Elmhow zig-zag, Lord’s Seat and the east ridge can be climbed from Deepdale or from the east by making first for Grisedale Tarn, which then puts this fell into reach from Grasmere or Dunmail Raise. The summit of this fell, which is marked by two cairns, has a further cairn at the northern end of the summit which marks the main viewpoint for Ullswater. The views of the district, the crags of Fairfield and Striding Edge are spectacular.
