Rampsholme Island

Unfortunately, very little historically has happened on Rampsholme Island other than it formed part of the late Earl of Derwentwater’s confiscated estate and which was purchased by John Marshall Esq. of Leeds in 1832 from Greenwich Hospital.

The island is called “garlic island” by the Keswick locals as wild garlic grows on it and at certain times of the year you can smell the garlic as you go past the island on the boat trips around Derwent Water.
