Orrest Head
Located above the village of Windermere, at approximately 784 feet, Orrest Head is considered by many to be the best viewpoint over Lake Windermere. From here, on a clear day, the Yorkshire fells to the Langdales and Troutbeck valley as well as Morecambe Bay is clearly visible.
Alfred Wainwright, the well known walker and author, first climb in 1930 was Orrest Head. At the top of Orrest Head you will find a plaque to the memory of Alfred Wainwright. The view, that so greatly inspired him, stays today as he would have seen it.
