The Langdale Pikes, which are north of Great Langdale in the Lakes, Cumbria, are approximately 2403 feet above sea level and consists of three peaks which are known as Pike of Stickle, Harrison Stickle and Pavey Ark.

The Langdale Pikes are very popular with fell walkers, rock climbers as well as being irresistible to artists and photographers. Alfred Wainwright wrote “once seen, never forgotten” which truly describes the Langdale Pikes. John Ruskin also described it as “the loveliest rock scenery, chased with silver waterfalls, that I have ever set foot or heart upon”.
From a gentle climb to Stickle Tarn to a full scale scramble up Pavey Ark, this group of mountains has a wide variety of walks to suit all types of walkers/climbers. The dramatic scene at the summit, which always impresses the walker/climber on their first ascent of the Langdale Pikes, is that of Stickle Tarn into which drops the sheer rock face of Pavey Ark.
However, if you are more interested in ancient history, a “stone axe factory” on the slopes of Pike of Stickle once exported flint axes over prehistoric Europe and Great Britain.
