The Ullswater steamers regularly stop at Howtown on their way from Glenridding to Pooley Bridge and vice a versa.

There are many walks to choose from, however, the most popular walk which offers superb scenery is from Howtown to Glenridding. This can be done by hopping on a boat at Glenridding, getting off at Howtown and walking back to Glenridding.
