Askham

Askham is situated in the eastern edge of the Lake District National Park and just a few miles south of Penrith, is a village and civil parish in the Eden district of Cumbria. Many of the houses in Askham date between 1650 and 1750. However, Askham Hall, which was developed on the site of a pele tower, is 14th century in parts. This is the home of the present Earl of Lonsdale.

There are two public houses in Askham; firstly, the Queen’s Head, whichoriginates from the 17th century, has retained most of it’s originalfeatures, and secondly, the Punch Bowl, which originates from the 18thcentury, became a watering hole for travellers on their way to Mardale,which is now at the bottom of Haweswater reservoir. Both these publichouses will welcome you with warming fires. This village is convenientlylocated near Haweswater reservoir, Penrith, Ullswater and the Eden Valley.
