Most routes up Pillar are very steep and would only be suitable for the sure footed. However, the most popular ascent is from Wasdale Head. The summit, which is surprisingly wide and grassy, has excellent views of all the major fells, except the Coniston range. Loweswater, Ennerdale Water and Burnmoor Tarn can also be seen from this summit.
