Great Rigg

Great Rigg, which has an elevation of 766 metres, is a fell approximately seven kilometres north north-west of Ambleside in The Lakes, Cumbria. This fell is usually climbed as part of the Fairfield horseshoe, which is a sixteen kilometre circular walk which begins and ends in Ambleside.

However, a direct ascent can also be made from Grasmere up the south west ridge, which takes in Stone Arthur on the way. This route can be followed to Fairfield and Seat Sandal, before it returns to Grasmere to complete a circular walk of approximately ten kilometres.

Great Rigg’s summit, which is marked with a sizeable cairn named Greatrigg Man on large scale maps, has wonderful views of the Lakeland mountains to the west. However, the highlight of this summit’s view is the large amount of tarns and lakes that are visible from up here.
