Whinlatter Pass

Whinlatter Pass, which is a mountain pass on the B5292 road in The Lakes, passes through Thornthwaite Forest and as it sits approximately 1,043 feet above sea level it has spectacular views over Bassenthwaite Lake. The small village of Braithwaite, which sits on both sides of the Coledale Beck, lies at the foot of the pass.

The villages of High Lorton and Low Lorton are situated at the other end of the pass. This pass, which stretches from the Vale of Keswick to the Vale of Lorton and which was used by the Romans, is as popular today as it was then for the breathtaking views of the Lake District landscape. To the north of Whinlatter Pass stands Whinlatter Forest which has many activities to offer the whole family.
