Whinlatter Forest

Whinlatter Forest, which is approximately four miles west of Keswick in the lakes and just north of the Whinlatter Pass, has many attractions for the visitor and is surrounded by Thornthwaite Forest. Not only has it got some great forest walks, picnic area and orienteering courses, but at the main visitor centre you will find a gift shop, children's play area and cafe as well as live camera feeds from the nearby Osprey's nest. Alternatively, from Dodd Wood, which overlooks Bassenthwaite Lake, there is an Osprey viewing facility, these are both staffed by volunteers who can explain these rare birds.

The Altura Trail and Cyclewise Whinlatter, who cater for mountain bikers, have a bike hire centre, shop as well as many bike trails. There is also a rope course called Go Ape, which allows adventurers to slide and climb through the treetops. Whinlatter Forest has numerous activities to offer the whole family.
