Ullswater steamers
Ullswater steamers, which started in 1859 as the Ullswater Navigation and Transit Company Limited, began their services by carrying provisions, mail and passengers up and down the lake.
Ullswater Steamers, which are based on Ullswater in the Lakes in Cumbria, have two main terminals one at Glenridding and another at Pooley Bridge. They do, however, stop at Howtown as many walkers use this connection for their trip back to Glenridding.
Two of the Ullswater Steamers, MY Raven which was built in 1889 and MY Lady of the Lake which was launched in 1877, were converted to diesel during the 1930's. They have, however, both now been converted to oil. These two vessels were joined by their smaller sister, MV Lady Dorothy, in 2001 and in 2007 the Lady Wakefield was commissioned by HRH Princess Alexandra.
Although Ullswater Steamers operate all year round, with the exception of Christmas Even and Christmas Day, it would be best to obtain further information either from their website or from the Ullswater Information Centre.
