The Keswick Museum and Art Gallery, which is in Fitz Park, Keswick, was purpose built in 1897. It was made by local green volcanic slate and St Bees sandstone. The beautiful Fitz Park has tennis, putting, bowls and a large children's playground nearby with riverside walks and a picnic area.

The museum holds an excellent collection of letters and documents to do with Wordsworth, Southey, Coleridge and Walpole. Interestingly they have the original copy of "The Three Bears", which was written by Southey and unlike the newer version where Goldilocks eats their porridge, it is actually an old woman who eats their porridge. The museum also houses the lithophone made from hornfels rock known as The Musical Stones of Skiddaw constructed by Peter Crosthwaite between 1827 and 1840.
