The Cumbria Way

The Cumbria Way, which is an approximately 70 mile long distance footpath that passes through some of the most spectacular and contrasting landscapes in the Lake District, was originally planned by the local Ramblers' Association members in the 1970's. This entire route was waymarked and completed by volunteers and national park staff in May 2007.

This route, however, also connects with the Allerdale Ramble, Cumbria Coastal Way, Coast to Coast Walk, Hadrian's wall path, Cistercian Way, Eden Way and Windermere Way. The Cumbria Way, which is mainly a low level long distance footpath but which does contain some high level exposed sections, can be broken down into five different stages, namely:

Stage 1: Ulverston to Coniston (approximately 15 miles in length)

Stage 2: Coniston to Langdale (approximately 11 miles in length)

Stage 3: Langdale to Keswick (approximately 15 miles in length)

Stage 4: Keswick to Caldbeck (approximately 14 miles in length)

Stage 5: Caldbeck to Carlisle (approximately 15 miles in length)
