Details

Stott Park Bobbin Mill, which is situated on the west side of Lake Windermere, is set in wooded countryside. This mill began to produce the wooden bobbins that were essential to the Lancashire spinning and weaving industries in 1835. After it closed down in 1971 English Heritage bought the property and reopened it as a museum in 1983. Most of the original machinery, including the old water turbines and steam engines are cranked into life several times a week. There is a small exhibition, giftshop and static displays.
