Skiddaw
Skiddaw, at 3054 feet, is the fourth highest mountain in The Lakes, which overlooks Keswick and Derwentwater, and is one of the easiest to climb. This mountain is highly recommended for the occasional walker wishing to climb a mountain. The view from the top of Skiddaw, on a clear day, is extensive across north Cumbria and beyond.
The area around Skiddaw is where Peter Crosthwaite found the Musical Stones for his lithophone in 1785.
Popular route
The most popular and dramatic route up Skiddaw is from Keswick, then up Jenkin Hill - this is the first slope up Skiddaw and is the steepest part - after this it is an easier walk to the top (don't be surprised to see children running up !). On top of Skiddaw can be freezing, so be sure to take warm clothes with you.
