Pooley Bridge

The bridge at Pooley Bridge, which is to the northern end of Ullswater in the Lake District in Cumbria, was originally built during the 16th century across a big pool which formed in the River Eamont as water flowed out of Ullswater. Hence the name Pooley Bridge and although the pool is no longer there, the bridge is certainly still there.

Pooley Bridge, which was once a very busy market town, has a Victorian church which was built in 1868, old stone houses of which some date back to the 16th century and some lovely quaint teashops.

The Ullswater steam company offer great boat trips from Pooley Bridge to Howtown and Glenridding. This delightful village has a lot to offer it's visitors, from walks with spectacular scenery to luxury accommodation and dining.
