Near Sawrey
Near Sawrey, which is overlooked by the woods and tarns of Claife Heights, is approximately two miles from Hawkshead along the eastern side of Esthwaite Water in the Lake District.

The names of Near and Far Sawrey relate to the distance from Hawkshead. This small quaint hamlet consists of a few Cottages, tea rooms and pubs.
Near Sawrey is famous worldwide for Hill Top, this 17th century farmhouse was once owned by Beatrix Potter. Many of her characters in her famous children's stories were created here and her books contained many pictures based on this farmhouse and garden.
This property is now a museum, which is owned and run by the National Trust. Due to it's popularity, it is the most visited house in the Lakes during the summer months.
