Loughrigg Fell

Loughrigg Fell, which is a fell with an elevation of 335 metres in the central part of The Lakes, overlooks Grasmere and Elterwater to the west and Ambleside and Lake Windermere to the east. Loughrigg Fell, which has many paths, can be accessed from Ambleside, Clappersgate, Rydal, Grasmere and Elterwater.

This fell, which is family friendly, can become quite busy during the summer months. The highest point of Loughrigg Fell can be identified by an Ordnance Survey triangulation column which sits beside a large cairn. The most popular and easiest route up Loughrigg Fell is from the White Moss car park, which is on the A591 between Grasmere and Rydal Water.

The following stretches of water can be seen from the summit of Loughrigg Fell: Lake Windermere; Elterwater; Coniston Water; Grasmere Lake; Thirlmere. Also, views of the Langdale Pikes, the fells around Grasmere together with the Fairfield horseshoe and the Coniston Fells are spectacular. This fell is also on the route of The Windermere Way, which is a 45 mile circuit of Lake Windermere.
