The Kentmere Valley

Kentmere Valley, which is between Troutbeck on the western edge and Longsleddale towards the east, can be accessed by road by travelling through Staveley in the Lakes which is situated at it's mouth where the river meets the Gowan beck coming in from Ings.

This valley, which is steeped in ancient history, has evidence of habitation from approximately 4000 BC when apparently this valley and it's surround hillsides were almost completely covered with forest.

Not only was this valley well known for it's bobbin mills and Waterfoot factory, but it was also well known for it's history of mining. However, farming in the valley is the mainstay now.
