Haverthwaite

Haverthwaite, which is a small village just off the A590 near Low Wood, Greenodd and Ulverston, is situated at the southern end of Lake Windermere and sits beside the river Leven.

This village is home to the Lakeside and Haverthwaite Railway terminus. This was originally built in 1846 to connect with the steamers on Lake Windermere. The Haverthwaite Steam Railway still operates to Lakeside during the tourist season. Low Wood, which is part of Haverthwaite, is where iron and gunpowder was produced.

This small village, which offers a variety of accommodation options and a range of walks which start and end in the village, is a convenient location from which to explore the Lakes.
