Hart Crag

Hart Crag, with an elevation of 822 metres, is a fell which is one of the Fairfield group of hills in the Eastern fells in The Lakes, Cumbria. This fell stands on the ridge which runs south east from Fairfield to Dove Crag, at the point where a long subsidiary spur sweeps off to the north east. This fell is normally climbed as part of the Fairfield horseshoe, which is a classic ridge walk starting from Rydal or Ambleside and takes in all the fells that surround the valley of Rydal Beck.

However, a number of direct ascents are also possible. Access can be made along Deepdale and climbing onto Hartsop Above How ridge from the lower part of Link Cove, Rydale can be followed to it's head, from where the steep climb out of the valley leads to the summit, or Dovedale and Houndshope which provides the third possibility. The view from the summit of Hart Crag is good westward to the Scafells and also towards the Far Eastern fells, however, Fairfield and Dove Crag conceal much of the district.
