Grange over Sands Station

Grange over Sands Station, which is operated by First TransPennine Express and serves the town of Grange over Sands in Cumbria, is situated on the Furness Line from Barrow in Furness to Lancaster. This station building, which was designed by Lancaster architect Edward Paley and which was built by the Furness Railway Company in approximately 1864, was hugely restored during the late 1990's. However, this railway through Grange over Sands, which was first opened in approximately 1857 by the Ulverston and Lancaster Railway, used to carry heavy industrial traffic to support the iron and steel industry of the Furness area, which also included coke from County Durham.

This station is generally served by the regional express services, which are operated by First TransPennine Express from Manchester Airport to Barrow in Furness. However, there are additional local services which are operated by Northern Rail from Lancaster to Barrow in Furness, which continue to Sellafield or Carlisle by way of the Cumbrian Coast Line.
