Grange over Sands

Grange over Sands a town by the sea, developed from an inaccessible small fishing village in the Victorian years to a popular seaside resort with the arrival of the railway in 1887.

On Hampsfield fell, which is above the town, stands Hampsfell Hospice - a stone shelter for walkers, this was built by a local vicar in 1846. From here visitors can enjoy the views out to sea or north to the foot hills of southern Lakeland. On a clear day the Isle of Man and Snowdonia can be seen. Grange over Sands is within easy reach of Cartmel, Windermere and Ulverston.
