Fleetwith Pike

Fleetwith Pike, which has an elevation of 648 metres, is a fell in the Lake District, Cumbria. This fell is a prominent feature of the area as it sheds a distinguished presence over Buttermere and the Honister Pass on the B5289 road between Borrowdale and Buttermere.

The side of Fleetwith Pike which overlooks Honister Pass is known as Honister Crag. Since the 1750's this areas has been commercially quarried for it's high quality green slate. In 1986 slate mining and quarrying at Honister ceased, however, in 1997 the Honister Slate Mine was restarted.

Fleetwith Pike is usually climbed simultaneously with other neighbouring fells like Haystacks and Grey Knotts, however, stronger walkers might even include the peaks of Great Gable and Green Gable. The summit of Fleetwith Pike, which is a few yards in from the top of the Edge, has spectacular views of the Buttermere valley which includes Crummock Water and Loweswater as well as the fells of Pillar and Great Gable.
