Ennerdale Water, which is owned by United Utilities, is near to the town of Cleator Moor, the village of Cleator and the port of Whitehaven. Not only is this lake a reservoir, but it is also a site of special scientific interest for it's lakeshore habitats. Three landowners formed the Wild Ennerdale Partnership in 2003 with a vision to allow the evolution of Ennerdale as a wild valley for the benefit of people relying more on natural processes to shape it's landscape and ecology. This has resulted in this lake being one of the most natural looking lakes. The only craft allowed on Ennerdale is a rowing boat.
